Soccer Performance Conference 2021

“TO SPRINT OR NOT TO SPRINT IN SOCCER: THAT’S THE QUESTION!”

Sprinting in soccer has always been a topic of a big debate between practitioners working in soccer. Exposing players to high velocities is an issue that a lot of coaches seem to be avoiding in their training sessions. Can sprint training potentially improve performance, or does it cast too big of a big risk for players and should be avoided?

  • In this presentation I attempted to answer this question with scientific and practical background. We all can guess the answer but I wanted to go through some important aspects of the game and in the end prove that we have the right answer.

  • Taking everything from the scratch, analyzing the physical demands of a 90min soccer game, I have attempted to demonstrate the practical importance of Max Sprinting Speed (MSS) in soccer and provide ways how to measure it, how to periodise it and how can train it.

The presentation was part of the Soccer Performance Conference hosted by PIS Fitness at November 14th 2021, a 1 Day specialized webinar, designed to provide trainers, coaches and team managers with advanced knowledge as for soccer-specific training and performance optimization.
